Survey: Indigenous data sovereignty and Australian collections

This survey is seeking to capture Australian collecting institutions’ experience and readiness to implement Indigenous data sovereignty principles.

Institutions and organisations of all types are increasingly recognising the need for ethical engagement with Indigenous peoples as part of the gathering and acquiring, access management, and use of data associated with collections. As a part of a project funded by the Australian Research Data Commons (ARDC), this short survey will gauge your institution/organisation’s experience and interests in collaborating with Indigenous peoples and managing Indigenous data in relation to your permanent holdings.

Your responses will contribute to understanding the experiences and challenges faced by Australian collecting institutions in implementing Indigenous data sovereignty tools. This survey, which takes approximately 15 minutes for 1 to 2 collections and slightly more for additional collections, allows for multiple responses if you manage more than one collection with different policies or issues.

Participation is voluntary and confidential. For any questions, you can contact Prof. Rachel Ankeny at 08-8313-5570 or [email protected], or Audrey Henry at [email protected]. The survey results will be summarised, anonymised, and included in a report on existing practices and barriers to curating Indigenous data in Australian collections.
