Diploma in Intellectual Property and Collections – Sydney 2019

July 17, 2019 - July 19, 2019

AUD$1,980.00

The Institute of Art & Law is for the first time offering its Diploma in Intellectual Property and Collections to museum professionals in Australia and New Zealand.

Intellectual Property (IP) is of increasing importance to all those working in the museum world, especially in the digital age. Many questions arise: What is IP? How can a museum protect its IP? What are the ways in which museums are allowed to use IP-protected works? What new challenges do museums face in this area in the 21st century? The purpose of the Diploma (DipIPC) is to provide answers to these questions – and more.

The course requires no pre-existing knowledge of law and will offer necessary training in hands-on IP management. The focus will be on copyright, explaining the elements of copyright subsistence, the types of works covered, copyright duration, assignment and licensing, infringement and the defences available against claims of infringement, including the ‘fair dealing’ exceptions. The course will also cover moral rights, digital rights management and trade marks, as well as the important area of managing IP aspects of indigenous heritage.

If you work in a museum, gallery, university (or other similar institution, both private and public), and are interested, intrigued or feel overwhelmed and challenged by this vast area of law, then the DipIPC course is for you.

The diploma will cover copyright in regards to both Australia and New Zealand.

Dates: 17-19 July 2019

Times: 10.00 am to 5.00 pm each day

Cost: $1800 ex GST
